So I am expecting Valve to be bought by Microsoft very soon, possibly this year during the new Xbox announcement or the first reporting quarter of the next OS, for a price of about $4.5 billion cash upfront and up to $3 billion in long term incentives. (Microsoft had $66bn in cash and short term investments as of September 2012.) I further expect Gabe to be promoted to CEO once Ballmer is pushed. Because, let’s face it, that’s one man who is never, ever going to quit.

Then I got home and my wife was really upset about it. My wife is a bit of a nerd too but she travels in circles of electronically connected paper-crafters and they are absolutely up in arms about this. To them, Google Reader is RSS. They don't know of alternative services and as far as they know, new services will never again exist. They think RSS is going to die on July 1 and that's that. Now some of them will figure out they can go elsewhere but some won't.

I was the kid who was always trying to freeze frame the displays in films and read what they said. I always knew there was some cool stuff hidden in there. I loved art and design, so I started teaching myself graphic design and motion design and began designing interface themes for Windows and Mac.

Sven Leistikow recommended Secrets Of Facebook's Legendary Hackathons Revealed from fastcompany.com:
We tested it, and photos of both of us drinking our beer populated everyone’s news feeds. All of a sudden we saw heads popping up around the office: “Hey, where’s the keg?” Within 10 minutes, there was a line of 15 people. We killed the keg that night.

Sven Leistikow I want to work there.
If you don’t love your job; if you don’t think it’s the most interesting thing you could be doing right now; if you don’t feel immensely grateful at the universe for having such an awesome gig… quit! Right fucking now. Money, mortgages, degrees, social expectations and obligations are just distractions. A waste of time. Humans are incredibly resilient creatures; we can figure pretty much anything out on the fly. The world is a fantastic place to be, and right now is probably the best time yet to be in it, so why waste your time selling sugared water?

I’d say every designer should design a clock at some point. There’s a lot of ways you can design a clock, and it’s surprisingly difficult to design something so attractive that it is remarkable, yet neutral enough to be liked by a very wide audience. One only has to look at the market for watches to see how intensely personal clock design is. I am still not quite content, and I’ll probably never be: I’ve found designing clocks to be a rather consuming affair.

One of the most acclaimed sleep researchers, Daniel Kripke, said there's never been any evidence to back the 8-hour rule. In his most recent study, Kripke found that "people who sleep between 6.5 hours and 7.5 hours a night, live the longest, are happier, and most productive."

"When crimes occur through the mail, you don't shut the post office down," Wozniak wrote. "When governments dream up charges of 'racketeering' for a typical IT guy who is just operating a file-sharing service, or accuse him of mail fraud because he said he had removed files [to alleged infringing content] when he'd just removed the links to them, this is evidence of how poorly thought out the attempt to extradite him is. Prosecutors are attempting to take advantage of loopholes. Too bad for the U.S. government that DotCom lives in New Zealand, which is better on human rights."

"The Nostromo set itself was only about 6'6 high. I'm 6'10, 7' with the suit on. I had to be very careful how I spun around or did anything. It was terribly hot, especially the head. I could only have it on for about fifteen or twenty minutes at a time. When I took it off, my head would be soaked."
