»So it seems now it is a good time to share some of my experiences regarding launching on the AppStore. I will try to provide some insight that I wish I had from other projects prior to launching my own.«
»I can disregard history. I can develop solutions without people saying "That's not how it's supposed to work!"«
»But the world is going app crazy. Apps apps apps. Have a website? Not good enough! You need an app... I don't get it.«

manuel First stage of technology adaption is always "overuse". Then "crash" and then "sane use".
»Your peers will be like “Woha, this guy knows his stuff!” and women will be totally like “I want to have his babies!”«

»Its not too far fetched to think that down the road we'll get rid of Rails for the API server and go with something faster and more “slim”.«

manuel Interesting thoughts by the folks from the svbtle network about the future of Rails and the request/response model.
»Basically, if a given software package or service isn’t free/open, it should be as easy as humanly possible to try it, pay for it, and start using it in production. If it isn’t easy to get started with your product, I’m going to find another vendor.«
»This morning, I experienced the nerd equivalent of a Black Friday $50 iPad sale.«

manuel How GitHub became what it is today.
Another good passage in the text is the "can I just send you a check"-part. I like this company and product alot (pun intended).

»Speed is one of those core competitive advantages that have long-term staying power. As Jeff Bezos would say, nobody is going to wake up 10 years from now and wish their application was slower. Investments in speed are going to pay dividends forever.«

manuel Very interesting post about Basecamp Next and its speed.
»Even the best programmers typically have no idea what they're doing when they start a new project.«
-
manuel I think most programmers will relate to this in some kind.
»In other words, developers applied TDD because they wanted to, not because of a decree from their manager. Whether it would’ve been as effective otherwise is an open question.«
»The parent process has to occasionally reap the dead children by using the wait() function. Doing this allows dead children to completely disappear.«

manuel Great/funny explanation of the Unix fork() mechanism, and its usage for servers and sockets. Also some perl.
»One of the main skills of research scientists of any type is knowing how to work comfortably and productively in a state of confusion.«
-
manuel »What is it like to have an understanding of very advanced mathematics?«. The quote is from the answer of "Anon User".
-
Daniel Rottschalk Were they speaking of "research scientists" - or "entrepreneuers"?
»including comments here would be Emacs-like.«
-
manuel Another view on the comments thing.
